Dear Teaching Career,
I’m just going to come out and say it. It’s time for a break. I know it’s not easy for either of us, but it’s the right decision. The last two years have been hard, and we’ve been growing apart. You must’ve felt it too. To be honest, I thought we were in this for the long hall, so this change is not easy. There were definitely a lot of tears on my end. I looked at all the retirees this year and thought “That should’ve been us,” but God had other plans for me and you’ll find others to fill your classrooms.
As this time together comes to an end, I can’t help but remember all the wonderful times we’ve had together. They always seem to outshine the rough times when you look back on things. We’ve been through a lot together these past 10 years. Two states, four schools, four grade levels, five classrooms, and an uncountable number of students. I’ve met some of my best friends because of you. I’ve learned from incredible mentors because of you. We taught through COVID together. I’ve helped open a new school (the craziest first week of school ever!) and taken 11 year olds on week long trips because of you!
Teaching career, I want you to know I do not regret the time we’ve had together. I still value you. I’ll still think of you every time the school supplies appear in the store. I’ll still encourage all the teachers I know who are in a relationship with you. And who knows, our paths may cross again. But for now, this is goodbye. And teaching career, thank you for all you’ve given me.
