We stepped into the building and I felt a relief from the cool morning air. The dark hallway sloped down to a set of glass doors. The sound and smell of pool gradually became apparent as we neared the doors. Daniel walked in front with a confidence like he was walking into his own house. I could see the other swimmers lined up with the coach talking to them as Daniel opened the door. No sooner did his foot cross the threshold, then a wave of cheers arose from the team as if a star had just entered the building. It was clear Daniel is a valuable and respected member of the team, missed at this morning’s practice.
Daniel chose to wake up early on a Saturday, not to go to swim practice like he normally does, but to take senior pictures at Zimmerman Park and Rocky Mountain College with me. Both had a beautiful variety of landscapes, but I especially can’t get over the doors at Rocky! Although he was sleepy, he was a natural in front of the camera and was willing to hold the many different poses I asked of him. (We took a few stretch breaks because he was sore from a previous workout.) He brought along props and outfits that showcased his personality and added a nice variety to his swimmer senior session. I loved that he brought along his letterman jacket. At the pool or telling me about his collection of over 300 transformers was where he was truly in his element.
Daniel, thank you for waking up earlier than you wanted to take pictures with me. You are a very talented young man and your relationship with your mom and knowledge of transformers amaze me! You have so many people cheering you on to achieve all the big plans you have set for your future. I wish you the best in your swimming this year and I look forward to hearing about your accomplishments. Daniel, thanks again for enduring the brisk morning and choosing me to take your swimmer senior session photos!
